Habitat:
This species primarily occurs in the oak woodlands of the Sierra Nevada foothills, which are characterized by Blue Oak, Interior Live Oak, and Foothill Pine. It can also be found in mixed forests containing Ponderosa Pine, Incense Cedar, White Fir, and Black Oak. In the northernmost parts of its range, this species is often found to be abundant in closed canopy conifer forest, while at its southern limit this species is found under rocks in arid grasslands. At some high elevation sites, individuals have been reported from under or within woody debris located adjacent to seeps or other moist places in coniferous forests. This species has been found to be especially abundant along riparian corridors, and may follow them onto the floor of the Central Valley (Jockusch et al. 1998, Green et al. 2014). It breeds by direct development and does not require water for breeding. It is unclear as to whether or not it is tolerant of habitat disturbance.

Range:
This species occurs on the western slopes of the central and southern Sierra Nevada in California, stretching from the southern boundary of Yosemite National Park south to just north of the Kern River, in the United States of America. It occurs at elevations between approximately 100-1,800 m asl. This species appears to occur at lower elevations on the eastern margins of the Central Valley in the southern part of its range (Jockusch et al. 1998, Green et al. 2014).
