Habitat:
This fully aquatic species is found in peat swamps and swamp forest (D. Iskandar pers. comm. May 2017). It is not found in modified habitats. It breeds in swamps by larval development.
Range:
This species occurs widely in Sumatra and Kalimantan, Indonesia. In Peninsular Malaysia, it is now restricted to Tasek Bera wetland, Tasek Chini wetland, Sungai Bebar and Padang Camung which are all in Pahang state, north Selangor Peat Swamp and Muar Peat Swamp. It probably occurs more widely on Sumatra and Borneo than current records suggest, especially in areas between known sites.
Conservation:
Conservation Actions
This species occurs in Bukit Duabelas National Park on Sumatra and in several High Conservation Value Areas (HCVA) in West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan Provinces. It occurs in Tasek Bera RAMSAR site and Tasek Chini Man and Biosphere Reserve (although there are ongoing threats) in Peninsular Malaysia (Malaysia Red List Assessment Workshop January 2018).
Conservation Needed
Improved protection and management of the peat swamp habitats is desirable for this species.
Research Needed
Further research on this species' distribution, population size and trends is recommended.
