When hatched the male carries the larvae on his back to water where they develop further. Aromomates ornatissimus seems to have moved into places previously occupied by A. nocturnus (E. La Marca pers. comm. 2020).

This species is known only from the type locality: about 2 km ESE by air from Agua de Obispo, in the state of Trujillo, Venezuela, at 2,250 m asl.

Conservation:
Conservation Actions In-Place
It was known to occur within Parque Nacional Dinira.

Conservation Needed
Should a subpopulation be detected in the wild, its habitat should be protected and the option of a captive-breeding programme might need to be explored.

Research Needed
Further survey work is necessary to determine whether the species is still surviving.
