Habitat:
This species can be found in open environments in forested areas and on the ground in leaf-litter within old growth rainforest. Rodríguez and Duellman (1994) observed that this terrestrial, nocturnal frog backs into leaf-litter so that only the head is visible, in this position it waits for passing prey. It breeds in pools, but will only use those found in continuous forest (Neckel-Oliveira 2007).

Range:
This species occurs in the Amazonian Basin of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, the Guianas, and Venezuela. It has an elevational range from sea level up to 400 m asl.

Conservation:
The range of this species includes many protected areas.
