Habitat:
This species occurs in areas of pine and oak forests. It has been found in springs, canyons, caves, and ravines. It hides under rocks and leaf-litter when inactive and sometimes burrows. It breeds by direct development and lays eggs in moist, sheltered spots on land. It also occurs in rural gardens and urban areas (C. Grünwald and S. Rovito pers. comm. October 2019).

Range:
This species occurs in extreme southern Coahuila, central Nuevo León, northern and central San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Querétaro, and Hidalgo in Mexico. Subpopulations from the Big Bend region in Texas, USA and northern Coahuila and Chihuahua, Mexico now belong to E. marnockii, and subpopulations from Tamaulipas have been reallocated to E. verrucipes (C. Grünwald pers. comm. October 2019). Its elevational range is from 1,300-2,400 m asl.
