Habitat:
This species occurs below logs and rocks in wetlands of temperate Nothofagus forest. Adults occur in vegetated permanent and temporary pools, swamps, and marshes. It requires vegetation-surrounding wetlands for egg deposition, where the eggs are laid in pools and ponds. Larval development is prolonged, with one overwintering period, and requires a permanent or long hydroperiod (C. Úbeda pers. comm. September 2017).

Range:
This species is endemic to the austral Nothofagus forests of Chile and Argentina. In Chile, it is distributed from Nahuelbuta (Trongol) to Wellington Island (F. Rabanal and C.Castro pers. comm. July 2015). In Argentina, it is present in Neuquén, Río Negro and Chubut Provinces. It has an elevational range of sea level to 1,000 m asl.

Conservation:
Conservation Actions
At least ten protected areas occur within the range of the species.

Conservation Needed
Further habitat protection is required. Any further introductions of predatory fishes into waterbodies where this species occurs should also be avoided.
