Habitat:
It is a nocturnal, terrestrial frog found in the leaf-litter of closed-canopy primary and secondary seasonally-flooded tropical rain forests (Heyer 2005, da Costa et al. 2013). Reproduction takes place in temporary water bodies; tadpoles are carnivorous and cannibalistic. Eggs are laid in foam nests and tadpoles are usually found in lentic water, though in some places the larvae are terrestrial, the foam nests occurring in burrows away from water (Menin et al. 2010).

Range:
This species is widely distributed in Amazonia. It ranges from southern Colombia, eastern Ecuador and eastern Peru in the west of its range, into northern Bolivia, much of central and northern Brazil (states of Acre, Amazonas, Amapá, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Pará, Piauí, Rondônia, and Roraima, and possibly Tocantins Queiroz et al. 2011, Ramalho et al. 2016, Brazilian Red List Workshop 2021), French Guiana, southern Venezuela, Suriname and Guyana (Heyer et al. 2011).
