Habitat:
This species can be found in montane forests, rocky outcrops, and scrub habitats. It reproduces in permanent streams. The larvae remain in streams where metamorphosis occurs after about eight months. It tolerates substantial habitat destruction.

Range:
This species occurs in central and south-central Argentina. It has an elevational range of 50-1,500 m asl. Based on a revision of several herpetological collections, many specimens from La Rioja, Catamarca and San Juan provinces previously reported in the literature as this species have now been assigned to Odontophrynus barrioi (Rosset et al. 2007).
