Habitat:
It is a typical fossorial and seasonal frog, well adapted to a semi-arid continental climate. It inhabits savannah and grassland habitats in the Cerrado biome, open areas in Atlantic Forest and Pantanal biomes, and occurs on the ground near standing and temporary waterbodies, such as ponds and swamps, where it also breeds. The reproductive activity its related to the period of high rainfall (precipitation daily values >50 mm). Males formed choruses to attract females to the flooded area, using the margins of temporary pond and flooded area with presence and absence of vegetation and footprint of animals to deposit the clutches (Rodrigues et al. 2004). It does not appear to adapt well to anthropogenic disturbance in Bolivia. However, in Brazil it is considered to be adaptable.

Range:
This species occurs widely in central and southeastern Brazil, the eastern Santa Cruz lowlands of Bolivia, eastern Paraguay and the alto-Paraguay area. In spite of assertions by Cei (1980) and Asociación Herpetológica Argentina (2000), the species probably does not occur in Argentina. Its elevational range is from 0–1,500 m asl.

Conservation:
Conservation Actions In-Place
It occurs in several protected areas. In Brazil, its mapped distribution overlaps with protected areas, including APA Corumbatai, Botucatu e Tejupa Perimetro Corumbatai, APA da Chapada dos Guimaraes, APA da Escarpa Devoniana (Campos Gerais), APA da Sub-Bacia do Rio Apore, APA das Nascentes do Rio Vermelho, APA Rio Batalha, ESEC dos Caetetus, ESEC Serra Geral do Tocantins, PARES do Morro do Diabo, PARNA dos Campos Gerais, RPPN Estancia Santa Ines, RPPN Fazenda Boqueirao, RPPN Fazenda Sao Jose and RPPN Olavo Egydio Setubal, in Brazil.

Research Needed
The population should be monitored for evidence of declines approaching the IUCN Red List threatened threshold of 30%.
