Habitat:
This species lives on the forest floor of primary and secondary forests, and to some extent, plantations. Their habitat is related to the mountain forest area along west to East Java (M. Munir pers. comm. May 2017). It breeds in streams, and movement studies detailing microhabitat use have been carried out (Susanto 2012).
Range:
This species is endemic to Java, Indonesia, where is has a fragmented range due to limited available habitat. It occurs from near sea level up to at least 1,200 m asl (Indonesia Red List Assessment Workshop May 2017).
Conservation:
This species occurs in many protected areas, including Ujung Kulon National Park and Gunung Halimun National Park, Gunung Gede Pangerango National Park and Gunung Tangkuban Perhahu National Reserve, Gunung Ciremai National Park (in West Java); Hutan Lindung Gunung Slamet, Gunung Merapi National Park, Hutan Lindung Gunung Ungaran (in Central Java); Taman Hutan Raya Raden Soeryo and Hyang Highland (in East Java).
