Habitat:

This species inhabits slow-flowing streams and the surrounding dense forest of relatively high mountainous regions. The breeding season begins in January, and peaks between mid-February and mid-March (Fei and Ye 2016). This species breeds in streams by larval development.

Range:
This species is restricted to Wulianshan and Ailaoshan in Jingdong County, in southwestern Yunnan Province, China. It occurs at elevations ranging between 2,300–2,450 m asl. The species is suspected to occur only on this mountain (D-Q. Rao pers. comm. June 2019). Its extent of occurrence (EOO) is 16,899 km2.

Conservation:
Conservation Actions In-Place
This species occurs in the Wulianshan National Nature Reserve. This species is on the "List of Beneficial or of Important Economic or Scientific Value Terrestrial Wild Animals under States Protection", under the protection of the "Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Wildlife", which provides a moderate degree of protection and makes it illegal to collect (China Red List Assessment Workshop June 2019).

Conservation Needed
Continuation of rigorous management of the existing parks is the best guarantee for the conservation of this species. It is also recommended that public awareness and outreach programs be established for this species.

Research Needed
There is a need for close monitoring of the population status of this species given its limited range. More investigations should be carried out on the distribution, ecology and population status of the species.
