Habitat:
This species inhabits streams, in which it breeds, and the surrounding subtropical forest (B. Wang pers. comm. June 2019). In mid and late July, adults are mostly found on sandy banks or shallow water stones in the daytime, and then move to forage for small animals on the shore after dusk. This species breeds by larval development, as with its congeners. Tadpoles typically hide under stones located near the edge of the streams or in deep water.

Range:
This species is known from Nanjiang and An Xian in Sichuan Province, Wenxian in Gansu Province, and Yangxian in Shaanxi Province, China. It occurs at elevations ranging between 1,400–1,900 m asl (B. Wang pers. comm. June 2019). Its extent of occurrence (EOO) is 18,870 km2.

Conservation:
Conservation Actions In-Place
This species occurs within a small-protected area, Guangwushan Natural Reserve. It is not currently included within national legislation.

Conservation Needed
Continued and strengthened management of protected area(s) where this species occurs, and expanded protection of suitable habitat elsewhere in its range is needed. It is recommended that public education and outreach programs be established to improve awareness of this species and potentially guide future development decisions.

Research Needed
More information is needed on this species' distribution, population status, ecology, and threats. Additionally, there is a need for monitoring the population status of this species given the threats of development within its range (B. Wang pers. comm. June 2019).
