Habitat:
This species inhabits subtropical forests and mountain streams, and breeds by larval development in streams. Adults tend to hide during the day, and are more active at night. During the breeding season, which begins around April, the females deposit approximately 350 eggs, which adhere in clusters to the bottom of stones in the stream. Tadpoles develop in these streams, and tend to concentrate on the stream bottom in backwater areas with fast-flowing water.

Range:
This species is known from southern Gansu, southern Shaanxi, and central and northern Sichuan provinces in China. It has been recorded at elevations between 700–2,000 m asl (B. Wang pers. comm. June 2019).
