Habitat:
This species inhabits karst caves in mountain habitats, and sub-tropical forests. Breeding takes place in springs and stream pools inside the karst caves (B. Wang pers. comm. June 2019).

The generation length of this species is estimated to be around three years.

Range:
This species is known from Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Chongqing, and Hunan provinces in central China, between 500–2,000 m asl (B. Wang pers. comm. June 2019).

The range of this species overlaps with several protected areas, including Jinfoshan Nature Reserve. 

Conservation Needed
There is an urgent need to manage cave development for tourism, water extraction, and dam construction in the karst caves. In addition, efforts need to be made to increase awareness for tourists to minimize their disturbance of cave habitats.

Research Needed
Further research is required on its population and ecology, and population monitoring would be beneficial.
