Habitat:
This species inhabits medium sized streams and springs in temperate forest habitats. It breeds by larval development in the same habitats. Breeding season occurs from April-May (Fei et al. 2012).
Range:
This species is endemic to China, where it is known from southwestern Sichuan Province and northwestern Yunnan Province, into the Henguanshan Moutains. It occupies an elevational range of 2,140-3,550 m asl.

The range of the species includes Baimaxueshan, Habaxueshan, Panzhihuasutie and Yading Nature Reserves. Most of this species' range lies within protected areas. This species is on the "List of Beneficial or of Important Economic or Scientific Value Terrestrial Wild Animals under States Protection", under the protection of the "Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Wildlife", which provides a moderate degree of protection and makes it illegal to collect (China Red List Assessment Workshop June 2019).
