Habitat:
It inhabits small to medium forest streams and spring-fed streams in alpine meadows, as well as the surrounding areas. These areas are damp and rich in vegetation. Adults are often found under rocks or fallen trees near the streams. Mating season takes place from May-July. Breeding takes place in streams, and eggs are deposited under plant stocks in the streams (Fei and Ye 2016).

Range:

This species is currently known from the provinces of Gansu (Wenxian), Sichuan (Garze, Dawu, Litang, Qianning, Luhuo, Yajiang, Xiangcheng, Daocheng, Kangding, Danba, Xiaojin, Barkam, Shuajingsi, Songpan, Lixian, Heishui), and Yunnan (Zhongdian), in southwest China. It has been recorded from an elevational range of 2,200-4,000 m asl (Fei and Ye 2016).

A few small-protected areas are present within the range of this species such as Gonggashan and Daochengyading National Nature Reserves. This species is on the "List of Beneficial or of Important Economic or Scientific Value Terrestrial Wild Animals under States Protection", under the protection of the "Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Wildlife", which provides a moderate degree of protection and makes it illegal to collect (China Red List Assessment Workshop June 2019).

Conservation Needed
Continued and strengthened management of protected area(s) where this species occurs, and expanded protection of cloud forest elsewhere in its range is needed.
