Habitat:
This species inhabits low-gradient streams and riparian habitats (mainly shrublands), and breeds in streams. Adult toads mostly live in and near the vegetated gentle mountain streams during the day, usually under the rocks or fallen trees in the streams; at night, they crawl along the streams (Fei et al. 2012). The reproductive peak is in the middle and late May, and can be delayed to the middle of June in some cases (Fei et al. 2012). The female toad lays about 200 eggs which adhere to the bottom of the stones, and tadpoles mostly live on the bottom of the water in the gentle flow near the Daxi River (Fei et al. 2012).
Range:
This species is only known from Muli, in south-western Sichuan Province, China, between 3,050–3,400 m asl. It occurs in one threat-defined location, and its extent of occurrence (EOO) is 2,860 km2.
