Habitat:
This species inhabits small- to medium-sized streams and the surrounding riparian forest. It sometimes also occurs in marshes and at the marshy edges of lakes. It is unlikely to tolerate any habitat disturbance (F. Xie pers. comm. July 2019). Breeding takes place in streams. The reproductive period takes place from May to July (Fei et al. 2012). Tadpoles have strong swimming ability, and live mostly in the backwater of rivers and rocks, and in small tributaries on both sides of rivers (Fei et al. 2012).

They mainly prey on small animals such as scarabs, bugs, aphids, Lepidoptera and diptera (Fei et al. 2012).

Range:
This species is known from Yuexi, Ganluo, Zhaojue, Mianning, Leibo and Xichang in southern Sichuan Province, China, between 2,600–3,750 m asl. It is expected to occur more widely (F. Xie pers. comm. July 2019). It occurs in 10 or fewer locations, and its extent of occurrence (EOO) is 14,004 km2.

Conservation:
Conservation Actions In-Place
This species is recorded from the Luojishan and Maanshan Nature Reserves. This species is also on the "List of Beneficial or of Important Economic or Scientific Value Terrestrial Wild Animals under States Protection", under the protection of the "Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Wildlife", which provides a moderate degree of protection and makes it illegal to collect (China Red List Assessment Workshop June 2019).

Conservation Needed
Further habitat protection is required.

Research Needed
Further research is required into its distribution, and population monitoring is recommended (F. Xie pers. comm. July 2019).
