This species occurs in both the wet and dry zones of Sri Lanka. It is generally an arboreal species of secondary forest habitats (including degraded forest), but can also occur in banana groves, home gardens, homes and other buildings. It is not present in primary forest. Larvae may be found in semi-permanent pools, stock tanks, and in stagnant water, including in human-altered habitats. This species is adaptable and is therefore thought to be tolerant of habitat disturbance (Sri Lanka Red List Assessment Workshop February 2020).

This species was previously known to be widely distributed throughout southwestern Sri Lanka, and is now known to occur across most of the country, including between known localities (Sri Lanka Red List Assessment Workshop February 2020). It has been recorded at elevations between sea level and 1,600 m asl (Sri Lanka Red List Assessment Workshop February 2020).

This species has been recorded from many protected areas including the Udawattakele Sanctuary in Kandy, and Victoria-Randenigala-Rantambe Sanctuary, Kanneliya Forest Reserve and Singharaja World Heritage Reserve.
