Habitat:
This species is found typically in primary evergreen rainforest, but it has also been found in secondary forest and old shifting cultivation, but not in open areas. Breeding aggregations form in vegetation near forest pools, descending from higher strata in the forest to breed at rain pools, and also animal wallows. Usually egg masses are attached to low vegetation in foam nests overhanging these pools.

Range:
This species is known from Mainland Southeast Asia with certainty from the Thai-Malay Peninsula from Ranong south to Endau-Rompin (Taylor 1962, Berry 1975), Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah, Kalimantan, and Brunei Darussalam), and also from throughout Sumatra, Indonesia (D. Iskandar pers. comm. May 2017). It is now also known from Tanintharyi in Myanmar (Zug and Mulcahy 2019), which is its first country record. It probably occurs more widely than current records suggest, especially in areas between known sites. It occurs up to 600 m asl.

Conservation:
Conservation Actions
This species occurs in a number of protected areas including Kerinci Seblat National Park and Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park in Sumatra, Indonesia (Kurniati 2008), Gunung Palung National Park in Kalimantan, and Gunung Panti Forest Reserve in Peninsular Malaysia (Chan et al. 2010).

Conservation Needed
Effective preservation of lowland forest is needed to conserve this species.

Research Needed
Further research on this species' taxonomy, distribution, population size and trends is recommended.
