Habitat:
This nocturnal salamander is restricted to páramo areas, among fallen leaves and fallen trunks and on the low strata of vegetation. Although there is limited ecological information, it is expected to reproduce by direct development, as with other congeners.

Range:
This species is only known from isolated páramos of the Cordillera Occidental in Colombia, including the vicinity of the type locality (Páramo de Frontino), Páramo de Sol, and Puente Largo in the municipalities of Frontino and Urrao, Antioquia department (Brame and Wake 1962, 1963; Ruiz et al. 1996, Paéz et al. 2002, Acosta, 2007). There is also a recent record from Páramo de Cerro Plateado on the border of Antioquia and Chocó departments (C. Jiménez pers. obs. In: SiB Instituto de Investigación de Recursos Biológicos Alexander von Humboldt 2019). It occurs from 1,980–3,680 m asl, its estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) is 1,366 km2, and it occurs at three to five threat-defined locations.

Conservation:
Conservation Actions In-Place
The species has been reported from Reserva Forestal Protectora Nacional Páramo de Urrao and Reserva Natural Colibrí del Sol (Fundación ProAves 2008).

Conservation Needed
Continued and strengthened management of protected area(s) where this species occurs to halt the further spread of agriculture and mitigate the negative effects of tourism on the páramos. Expanded protection of páramos elsewhere in its range is needed.

Research Needed
More information is needed on this species' distribution, population status, natural history, and threats.
