Habitat:
This species inhabits drier subtropical forests (oak-pine forests on the plateau) and also some secondary habitats, suggesting a degree of tolerance to disturbance. Individuals have been found under logs, in logs, and in bromeliads. It breeds by direct development.

Range:
This species occurs in the highlands of southwestern and southeastern Guatemala, including the Pacific versant. It is known from much of the plateau region of Guatemala, several of the Pacific volcanoes, and the Las Nubes highland block east of Guatemala City (Campbell et al. 2010, S. Rovito pers. comm. August 2019). The subpopulations from the Sierra de Los Cuchumatanes are now assigned to Bolitoglossa omniumsanctorum, and the subpopulation from Miramundo Highlands, in the Departamento Jalapa has been assigned to the newly described species, B. eremia (Campbell et al. 2010). Its elevational distribution is from 1,300-3,050 m asl. Its estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) is 5,088 km2, which represents 10 or fewer threat-defined locations.

Conservation:
Conservation Actions In-Place
This species likely occurs within protected areas, including Astillero Municipal de San Marcos.

Conservation Needed
Expansion of effective forest preservation and continued management of existing protected areas is recommended for the conservation of this species. Proactive, precautionary steps should be taken to detect the arrival of Bsal in Guatemala and to establish a baseline by including the swabbing of salamanders encountered during routine amphibian monitoring activities in the country (Guatemala Red List Assessment Workshop August 2019).

Research Needed
More information is needed on this species' distribution, population status, ecology, and threats. There is a potential need for monitoring the population status of this species given the threats of habitat loss.
