Habitat:
This species inhabits mixed pine-oak forests on the Guatemalan highlands (Campbell et al. 2010). It has been collected from some disturbed habitats, including selectively logged forest and near dirt roads, which indicates that it is more adaptable than many other species in the genus (Guatemala Red List Assessment Workshop August 2019). It is expected to breed by direct development, as with its congeners.

Range:
This species is known from the western portion of the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes, the Montañas del Cuilco, and the extreme eastern portion of the Sierra de Chuacús in Guatemala (Campbell et al. 2010). It has been recorded from 2,336-2,974 m asl (Guatemala Red List Assessment Workshop August 2019). It is likely to be a range-restricted species. Its estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) is 3,268 km2, which represents 3-5 threat-defined locations.

Conservation:
Conservation Actions In-Place
It likely occurs in K'ojlab'l Tze´ te Tnom Todos Santos Cuchumatán Regional Municipal Park, Twi A´lj Witz Regional Municipal Park, Xetaj Regional Municipal Park, and the La Vega del Zope Regional Municipal Park, however its presence has not been confirmed in these areas.

Conservation Needed
Expansion of effective forest preservation and continued management of existing protected areas is recommended for the conservation of this species. Proactive, precautionary steps should be taken to detect the arrival of Bsal in Guatemala and to establish a baseline by including the swabbing of salamanders encountered during routine amphibian monitoring activities in the country (Guatemala Red List Assessment Workshop August 2019).

Research Needed
More information is needed on this species' distribution, population status, ecology, and threats.
