Habitat:
Individuals have been found in dense wet forest, as well as in a grassy field, cleared for cattle grazing (Brame and Wake 1963). However, this does not necessarily suggest that the species adapts well to human-modified landscapes, and they might prefer regenerated forests. It breeds by direct development.
Range:
This species occurs in the northwestern lowlands of Ecuador below 1,200 m asl. In addition, the species has also been reported from Lago Calima, Valle del Cauca, Colombia (Mauricio Rivera-Correa, unpubl. data 2016), widening the range significantly.
Conservation:
Conservation Actions
Its range includes the Reserva Ecológica Cotacachi-Cayapas as well as the Bilsa Biological Reserve in Ecuador. It is not known from a protected area in Colombia.
Conservation Needed
Improved protection and management of suitable habitat is required across its range.
Research Needed
Further work is required to better understand the species' population size, distribution, and trends, and its resilience to disturbance.
