Habitat:
This species inhabits humid lowland and montane forest, where it is arboreal, and breeds by direct development. It is unlikely to be tolerant to habitat disturbance (Panama Red List Assessment Workshop August 2019).
Range:
This species is known only from the Serrania de Pirre of Panama in the Darién region, adjacent to Colombia, at 900-1,440 m asl. It is likely to be restricted to this mountain range (Panama Red List Assessment Workshop August 2019). Its extent of occurrence (EOO) is 400 km2, which represents a single threat-defined location.
Conservation:
Conservation Actions In-Place
Its entire known range falls within Parque Nacional Darién.
Conservation Needed
Continued protection and enforcement of Parque Nacional Darién and management of the forest to prevent illegal habitat destruction is required. Proactive, precautionary steps should be taken to detect the arrival of Bsal in Panama and to establish a baseline by including the swabbing of salamanders encountered during routine amphibian monitoring activities in this country (Panama Red List Assessment Workshop 2019).
Research Needed
Population monitoring is required, and studies to better understand the declines in this species (Panama Red List Assessment Workshop August 2019).
