Habitat:
This species inhabits rocky brooks, springs and seepages; animals may disperse into terrestrial forest habitats in wet warm weather. Adults hide under objects in or near water. Eggs are laid in water on underside of rocks or logs. It is unclear as to whether or not it is tolerant of habitat disturbance.

Range:
This species occurs in the Southern Appalachian Mountains in the United States of America, mainly in the southern Blue Ridge Mountains physiographic province, from western Virginia southward through eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina to western South Carolina and northern Georgia. It is possibly also present in northern Alabama (although this needs confirmation as records there could represent Eurycea cirrigera), and north-central South Carolina (Sever 1999).

Conservation:
Conservation Actions In-Place
This species is present in several protected areas throughout its range.

Research Needed
Further taxonomic research may be needed to elucidate the relationships between this species and Eurycea cirrigera.
