Habitat:
This terrestrial species inhabits pine-oak and pine forest, woodlands, and madrone (Arbutus forest) with abundant shrubby and ericaceous plants. It is generally found under bark and fallen logs, and in leaf-litter. It reproduces by direct development.
Range:
This species is known from the area of Las Vigas and La Joya in central Veracruz, Mexico. It occurs at elevations between 2,200–2,600 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) is 42 km2 and its distribution is thought to represent a single threat-defined location.

This species has not been recorded in any protected areas. It is thought to possibly occur within Parque Nacional Cofre de Perote, however this requires confirmation.
Conservation Needed
The remaining forest habitat within this species range is in urgent need of improved protection. Additionally, proactive, precautionary steps should be taken to detect the arrival of Bsal in Mexico through the swabbing of both wild and imported salamanders, in addition to a total ban on the importation of non-native salamanders (Mexico Red List Assessment Workshop October 2019).
