Habitat:
This species is terrestrial and inhabits pine forest and cloud forest, living under logs and stones, and in leaf-litter. It presumably reproduces by direct development.
Range:
This species is known only from Concepción Pápalo in the northern Sierra de Juárez, north central Oaxaca, Mexico. It is found at elevations ranging from 2,090–2,850 m asl (Canseco Márquez and Gutiérrez Mayén 2010). Its extent of occurrence is 87 km2.
Conservation:
Conservation Actions In-Place
This species has not been recorded in any protected areas.
Conservation Needed
Improved habitat protection is required at sites where this species is known to occur. Additionally, proactive, precautionary steps should be taken to detect the arrival of Bsal in Mexico through the swabbing of both wild and imported salamanders, in addition to a total ban on the importation of non-native salamanders (Mexico Red List Assessment Workshop October 2019).
Research Needed
More information is needed on this species' distribution, population status, ecology, and threats. There remains a large area of unsurveyed potential habitat where this species is likely to occur, and so it is possibly not as threatened as other members of this genus.
