Family Coliidae |
|
The Order Coliiformes consists of the mousebirds, small, agile, arboreal birds native to sub-Saharan Africa. They have soft, hair-like feathers, long tails, and strong, reversible toes that allow them to cling to branches and hang upside down while feeding. Mousebirds are social, often moving in family groups, and primarily eat fruits, leaves, and flowers. They are unique among birds for their combination of scaly feet, long tails, and highly flexible bodies, making them excellent climbers and foragers in dense foliage.
