The family Sulidae comprises seabirds commonly known as boobies and gannets. These birds are medium to large in size, with long, pointed wings, streamlined bodies, and strong, pointed bills adapted for catching fish. Sulids are highly skilled plunge-divers, often diving from great heights into the ocean to catch prey. They are colonial breeders, nesting in large, dense colonies on cliffs or islands, and typically lay one to three eggs per breeding season. Their plumage is usually white with contrasting dark markings on the wings or tail, depending on the species, and they exhibit strong pair bonds and cooperative parenting behaviors. Found mainly in tropical and subtropical oceans, sulids play an important role in marine ecosystems as top predators of fish and squid.
