The Family Megadermatidae, commonly known as false vampire bats, is a group of large, insectivorous and carnivorous bats found across Africa, Asia, and Australia. Unlike true vampire bats, most Megadermatidae species do not feed on blood; instead, they prey on insects, small vertebrates, and occasionally other bats. They are characterized by broad, leaf-shaped noses, large ears, and strong jaws, adaptations that enhance echolocation and hunting efficiency at night. Typically nocturnal and solitary or roosting in small groups, these bats play an important ecological role as pest controllers and predators within their habitats.
