The Family Natalidae consists of small, insectivorous bats commonly known as funnel-eared bats, found primarily in the Neotropical regions of Central and South America, including the Caribbean. These bats are named for their distinctive funnel-shaped ears, which aid in echolocation and prey detection. Members of Natalidae are nocturnal and primarily feed on flying insects, capturing them in flight using agile maneuvers. They typically roost in caves, crevices, or hollow trees, often forming small colonies. Natalid bats play an important ecological role as natural pest controllers, helping to regulate insect populations in their habitats.
