Habitat:
The species is common in primary forest, and may not do well in highly disturbed forest (C. Francis pers. comm). It has also been recorded from the Sebangau peat swamps (Husson and Morrogh-Bernard 2003) and Tanjung Puting heath forest (Struebig et al., 2006) in Central Kalimantan. Recorded at limestone forest areas of ca 500 m asl (Mohd-Azlan et al., 2005) to ca 1,000 m asl on Mount Penrisen, Sarawak, Borneo (Kumaran et al. 2006). Roosting habits are unknown (Kingston et al. 2006).

Range:
This species is recorded from Borneo and Peninsular Malaysia. It was described by Yasuma (1997) from Brunei and Bukit Suharto in East Kalimantan, Borneo, and also is known from Maliau Basin and Lumerao in Sabah (unpubl. survey report) and from the Sebangau peat swamps in Central Kalimantan, Borneo (Husson and Morrogh-Bernard 2003). It can be expected to also occur in Thailand, but this has not yet been confirmed.

Reported in Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo by Khan et al. (2010) at Lanjak Entimau, Mulu National Park, National Park, Wildlife Sanctuary and Kumaran et al. (2006) at Mount Penrisen, and Tanjung Putting National Park, Central Kalimantan by Struebig et al. (2006). This species is also reported as a common species in Western and Northeastern Sarawak by Shazali et al. (2018).

Conservation:
It occurs in Krau Wildlife Reserve in Peninsular Malaysia (Kingston et al. 2006).
