Habitat:

Regarded as a forest dwelling species, this species is usually captured in natural forests, but there are two records from artificial forests (Kawai 2015). Roosts in tree cavities and under tree bark, solitary individuals have been found in buildings and rock crevices (Kawai 2015).

The reproductive pattern is the delayed fertilization type (Son et al. 1988). Parturition may occur between mid-July to mid-August, as suggested by several observations (Kawai 2015). One female under captivity gave birth to 2 neonates (Kawai et al. 2015).

Range:
This species is endemic to Japan, where it has been recorded from 15 prefectures in Honshu and Shikoku (Kawai 2015). Localities in western Honshu and Shikoku Isls are highly isolated from main distributional range in Eastern Honshu.

Conservation:
Parts of distributional range are in protected areas.
