Habitat:
This bat is strongly insectivorous, it especially feeds on small aerial insects that it catches in open areas, including Diptera, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera and Coleoptera (Sosa et al. 1996). It is generally found in small colonies (Linares 1998), it lives in holes in columnar cactus arms (Soriano et al. 2004). This is one of the first bat species to appear at dusk (Soriano pers. comm.).

Range:
This species occurs in northeastern Colombia and coastal Venezuela (including Margarita Island) (Simmons 2005). In Venezuela it ranges from sea level to 860 m (Lew pers. comm). An isolated population in northern Venezuela has been described as a different subspecies (Soriano et al. 2004).

Conservation:
The species is not recorded from any protected areas.
