The Order Dasyuromorphia comprises primarily carnivorous marsupials native to Australia and New Guinea. This order includes animals such as quolls, the Tasmanian devil, numbat, and the extinct thylacine. Members are typically small to medium-sized, with sharp teeth and strong jaws adapted for hunting insects, small vertebrates, and carrion. Most are nocturnal or crepuscular and exhibit a range of social behaviors, from solitary hunting to more social interactions in some species. Dasyuromorphs play an important ecological role as predators, helping to control populations of other small animals in their habitats.
