Habitat:
There is no information on the ecology of this species and it is not clear from which habitats any specimens have been collected from, but Mounts Marsabit and Nyiro support Afromontane forest.

Range:
Crocidura macowi is known from its type locality on Mount Nyiro, south of Lake Turkana, Kenya. The estimated elevation of the holotype is 2,438 m asl. It has also been found nearby around Mount Marsabit in 2002, when at least nine specimens were recorded between 1,350 and 1,370 m asl (Grant et al. 2020).

Conservation:
There are no direct conservation measures in place for this species. It has been recorded in Marsabit National Park and might be present in Mount Nyiru Forest Reserve. Additional studies are needed into the distribution, abundance, general ecology and threats to this little-known species.
