Habitat:
It occurs in humid montane tropical forest (Hutterer 2005) and in cold, wet, pine-oak forest and forest edge. It favours damp, grassy areas bordering streams or orchards (Reid 1997) and prefers primary forest (Choate 1973). It is terrestrial and probably breeds throughout the year. One litter of three has been reported (Choate 1973, Reid 1997).

Range:
This species occurs in Chiapas, Oaxaca, Puebla, and Veracruz, in Mexico. It is found from 520 to 2,600 m asl (Hutterer 2005).

Conservation:
It probably occurs in a few protected areas within its range.
