Habitat:
It inhabits primary and secondary forest at low to high elevations; it occurs also in alpine grassland.

Range:
This species is endemic to Japan, where it is known from just a few isolated montane areas on Honshu. In the western part of the range, it is present at higher elevations (usually above 400 m asl, sometimes lower), and in the northern parts at lower elevations.

Conservation:
It is known to be present in protected areas, such as Nikko National Park. It is listed as Near Threatened in the Japanese Red List (2007).
