Habitat:
The claws and teeth of this species are specialized for fossorial life (Wilson and Reeder 2005, Mora et al. 2003) and it is found in regions of sandy soils (Barquez et al. 2006). It is a solitary species that inhabits sandy soil patches separated by ample stretches of uncolonized land subject to periodic flooding (Bidau 2015, Wilson et al. 2016).

Range:
This species occurs in north-central Argentina in Formosa and Chaco (Woods and Kilpatrick 2005) and has been recorded in the Chaco Formosa, Santiago de Estero, and Santa Fe provinces of northern Argentina, occupying the ecoregions of Chaco Seco and Chaco Húmedo (de Freitas 2016).

Conservation:
This species is listed as Near Threatened on the Argentina National Red List of Mammals (Ojeda et al. 2012). It is not found in any protected area and there are currently no conservation measures are in place to protect it.
