Habitat:
This species inhabits sandy soils and dunes at elevations up to 800 m (Pearson 1984, Mora et al. 2003, Bidau 2015). It occurs parapatrically with another species, probably Ctenomys haigi, in the vicinity of the type locality of Chos Malal (Bidau 2015).

Range:
This species is only known from the type locality of Chos Malal, Provincia de Neuquén at 805 m elevation and the neighboring areas in the Patagonian steppe of Neuquén province, Argentina (Bidau 2015) and its distribution is restricted to the Malal region of Argentina (de Freitas 2016).

Conservation:
It is found in the El Tromen Provincial Park. This species was listed as Vulnerable (Ojeda and Diaz 2000) and is currently listed as Near Threatened in the Argentinian Red List (Ojeda et al. 2012).
