Habitat:
It inhabits dry areas with xeric vegetation at about 600 m on soft and sandy soils (Reig and Kiblisky 1969). Little is known about this species, and no information about its ecology is published. Specimens have been collected in areas of open forest with extremely stony soils in the Dry Chaco region of Argentina (Bidau 2015, Wilson et al. 2016).

Range:
The Mottled Tuco-tuco is known only from Tucumán province, in the Chaco Seco ecoregion of Argentina (Bidau 2015). It is found at elevations of 600 to 1,100 m (Sandoval and Ferro 2014).

Conservation:
There is no information available about any conservation measures being made to protect this species. Further research is necessary to clarify the true status of this species.
