Habitat:
This species is found in open areas of the Cerrado biome, which is known to demonstrate a wide structural complexity of habitats (Bezerra and Bonvicino 2015). It is a semi fossorial, colonial species with diurnal activity confined to savannah areas and their edges (Emerson pers. comm.). In Brazil, three females with single embryos were caught during the period June to December (Eisenberg and Redford 1999). Individuals of this species are predators and dispersers of seeds of the palms Attalea geraensis and Syagrus petraea. Breeding may be seasonal. (Bezerra and Bonvicino 2015).

Range:
This species is known from the Cerrado domain of central Brazil, extending south to Sáo Paulo state and the Chaco of Paraguay (Fabre 2016, Bezerra and Bonvicino 2015).

Conservation:
This rodent occurs in several protected areas throughout its range (Vieira pers. comm.).
