Habitat:
The species is found in rocky areas with scattered trees and bushes. This is a diurnal species that finds shelter in burrows or among rocks during the night and during the heat of the day. It feeds on nuts and seeds, including those of the commercially valuable argan (Argania) (Kingdon 1997).

Range:
In the European region, the species was introduced onto Fuerteventura Island in 1965, and it has since been translocated to other Canary Islands and to mainland Spain, where it is considered invasive.

The global range of this species is in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco and western Algeria (Kingdon 1997).

Conservation:
No conservation actions are needed in the European extent of its range, where it is considered invasive.
