The Family Cylindrophiidae consists of Asian pipe snakes, a small group of nonvenomous, burrowing snakes found primarily in Southeast Asia. These snakes have cylindrical, elongated bodies, smooth scales, and reduced or absent eyes, adaptations suited for a subterranean lifestyle. They are primarily fossorial, spending most of their time underground or under leaf litter, and feed mainly on small vertebrates such as other snakes, amphibians, and soft-bodied prey. Cylindrophiids are ovoviviparous, giving birth to live young rather than laying eggs, and are generally secretive and rarely encountered, making them relatively understudied compared to other snake families.
