Habitat:
Largely associated with littoral habitats, often found among rocks.

Range:
This species is widespread in the Pacific, ranging through the Austral Islands, Cook Islands, Line Islands, Easter Island, Gilbert Islands, Hawaiian Islands, Marianas Islands, Marquesas, Marshall Islands, Palau, Phoenix Islands, Pitcairn, Samoa, Society Islands, Tahiti, Tonga, Tuamotu, Solomon Islands (Rennel Island only and possibly introduced [M. McCoy pers. comm. November 2011], Wake Island (Horner 2007). There are occasional records from the coast of mainland South America (Peru). It appears to be absent from Fiji. It is found up to 75 m asl.

Conservation:
It is likely to occur in several protected areas in view of its wide range. No direct conservation measures are needed for this species.
