Habitat:
This species is a habitat generalist that may be found in rivers and marshlands, lakes and ponds, generally in areas with abundant bank vegetation.

Range:
Within the European region, this species has been sporadically observed in the wild with no unambiguous evidence of reproduction. It has been observed in central Italy in a coastal marshland situated about 20 km north of Rome (Battisti and Luiselli, unpublished) and it was found in south-eastern Latvia, on the outskirts of the Daugavpils dwelling zone, near to a busy asphalt road (Pupina and Pupins 2016). Occasional records also occur in Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Czechia, France, Germany, Romania, Slovenia, Switzerland and Spain (Koppetsch 2021, Kopecký et al. 2023).

Its native range is East Asia. Widely introduced: Guam, Indonesia (Kalimantan, Sumatra, Timor), Japan (Bonin Islands, Ryukyu Archipelago), Malaysia (East, West), Northern Mariana Islands, Philippines (Bohol, Cebu, Leyte, Luzon, Mindanao, Mindoro, Panay), Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and USA (Hawaii).
