The Order Stylommatophora comprises primarily land snails and slugs, which are terrestrial gastropod mollusks. They are characterized by having two pairs of retractable tentacles, with the upper pair bearing the eyes, and a soft, unsegmented body that may or may not have a coiled shell. Stylommatophorans are herbivorous or detritivorous, feeding on plants, fungi, and decaying organic matter, and they play important roles in nutrient cycling and soil health. Reproduction is usually hermaphroditic, and many species lay eggs in moist environments to prevent desiccation. These mollusks are widely distributed across temperate and tropical regions and are important both ecologically and as agricultural pests in some areas.
