The order Capnodiales is a group of fungi within the class Dothideomycetes, primarily known for including sooty molds and several plant-associated species. Members of this order are mostly saprophytic or epiphytic, growing on plant surfaces, decaying organic matter, or in association with insects, although some are plant pathogens. They are characterized by darkly pigmented hyphae and spores, often forming a superficial black coating on leaves, stems, or fruits. Capnodiales exhibit diverse ecological roles, ranging from decomposers to opportunistic pathogens, and are widespread in terrestrial ecosystems. Some species also have significance in agriculture due to their impact on crop health and yield.
