Family Elsinoaceae |
Family Myriangiaceae |
The order Myriangiales is a group of fungi within the class Dothideomycetes, primarily known for their role as plant pathogens or saprophytes. Members of this order typically produce darkly pigmented, often flattened or crust-like fruiting bodies (ascomata) on plant tissues. They have bitunicate asci (spore-bearing structures with a double wall) and generally produce single-celled ascospores, which aid in dispersal. Myriangiales species are found worldwide, often associated with leaves, bark, or stems, and while some cause plant diseases, others contribute to the decomposition of dead plant material, playing a role in nutrient cycling in ecosystems.
